It's a slow day at work. That happens frequently, ever since a disagreement started between my partners and the hospital over how the income guarantee for my first year in practice works. In a nutshell, it's best for my colleagues if I do the work that we don't bill out in order to maximize the amount the hospital pays me. That means I am on call most days for frozens, tissue lab issues, tumor boards, meetings and other odds and ends that don't compensate that much. In June I will start signing out large volumes of work again.
The girls had their school program last week. I had a couple of issues with it. First, I didn't like that they had every grade doing it in one night. It was a 2-hour marathon thing with lots of time between numbers moving kids on and off stage. I really only care about seeing my kid and I didn't want to have to sit through all the other grades' numbers. To make matters worse, having the whole school there made the crowds a problem. Most people had to sit a long way from the stage and they had to interrupt the program repeatedly to tell people not to stand in the aisles.
My other problem is I felt like I was at some Al Gore fundraiser event, or a spiritual revival for the Green religion. I don't have a problem with teaching kids to turn the lights off and not waste water, but this was ridiculous. It was mostly harmless, but when they made a big deal of global warming I figured it was irritating enough to blog about it. Does anybody else have examples of things being taught in public school that you don't necessarily approve of?

YES!! Not global warming, but...each class does a little song at the end of the year. When Cole was in 1st grade it was a song by the Naked Brothers Band (I despise them) about how much they hate school, school sucks, teachers are dumb, etc. I called the teacher, voiced my concern and she told me it was too late to change, but it was really harmless. I had Cole opt out of performing. Of course this song was the big hit of the day! I even talked to the Principal who basically told me since I was the only one complaining, it wasn't a big deal.
Neh. We celebrate Earth Day as part of our homeschooling. :P We won't make you hug a tree or anything when you come visit. ;) I love Jared posts. I can totally hear your voice in them. We miss you guys.
ooo....let's talk.
we had some issues in texas actually. maybe i shouldn't mention. let's just summarize and say it was about mexicans.
btw, i don't let my kids watch, listen, or pay attention to Bill Nye the Science Guy anymore. Did you see him on Fox News? He's rediculous! He totally believes in that hogwash they call global warming. Sorry Bill...bye-bye!
our kids' current school is pretty good. they didn't even make the students watch obama that one day he was on tv. and for those that did want to watch it, they had to leave the room to do so. and the school didn't pass out the worksheets that went along with the obama speech either.
everyone says high school is horrible about this type of thing. good luck to us all then!
it's actually natalie commenting, not anth.
