I know I'm not a teacher or anything, I'm just a mom and not a very good one at that, but I sure hope the teachers are getting the results they are looking for by requiring my kids to participate in this fair. Because I know I'm not getting the results I'm looking for when the science fair rolls around. I hope the stress of it all is blinding me to the learning and growth that is happening in my kids because I sure as heck don't want the only result of this annual event to be family discord.
Enough of my soap box for the moment because it turns out I was proud to see my kids present their posters to the judges and describe their projects to wandering students, teachers and parents. These are some good kids we've got and I love 'em even if the lead up to the science fair tests our relationships a little bit.
Brita chose to do a smelling experiment and Leah performed a taste experiment. They did great. And I got to spend two afternoons at the school because they both presented their posters on different days. After the amount of work and effort that went into these projects and because that's two afternoons of my life I'm never getting back, I am expecting their results to change all of our lives in a significant way...
I will never smell nor taste the same way ever again thanks to my rock star scientists and the teachers who saw their potential.
