Fashion Sense...Or Not

Clothing seems to serve a functional purpose for me rather than a fashionable one. I like to feel good in my clothes and I like to look nice some days, but stylish shall not be my middle name. I don't remember even being aware of what I was wearing until I was about ten or eleven years old. In the fourth grade I got a pair of jeans that I loved because they were kind of tomboy-ish. I used to force my super ball into the snug front pocket and bounce away during class breaks and at recess. I also liked to pull one side of my hair up with a barrette. Now there's some fashion.

Brita seems to take after me with her fashion sense. She self-admittedly doesn't care about fashion, although she does like to find pretty dresses to wear on Sundays. She mostly just cares about being comfortable. In fact, she's mad at Leah for accidentally pushing her when they were on their way in to the Utah Flash game with their dad a couple weeks ago because she fell and now has some tiny holes in her favorite, most comfortable pair of yoga pants. Now that's my girl!

Leah has a most personal and unique sense of fashion. She combines odd patterns, colors and accessories in ways that only she can pull off with complete confidence. I'm baffled. Genes like those don't exist in our family, so I'm not sure how they found their way into her DNA.

Those two older girls of mine are opposites indeed. Both beautiful, both adorable, both lovable in completely opposite ways.

We do a lot of hiking in our family. A couple months ago, this is what Brita chose to wear on our hike...

...and this was Leah's little hiking ensemble:

Can't resist posting this next picture. Typically I don't say a thing about what the girls choose to wear because as long as they feel good and pretty, who cares what I think??? But this morning my raised eyebrows were enough to persuade Leah to lose her top layer (but at her request a photo was granted before she changed)...

Meg has taken on a stubborn preference for all things beautiful and she's not even two yet.

For example, she prefers this coat...

to this one...

She prefers these shoes (she even has to wear them with pj's)...

to these (however these moved up in the ranks after she inked some of her own designs on them)...

She loves to wear her tights and get ready for church...

In fact she screams when we take her dress off to put her pajamas on. But if we put her in these pajamas...
all is once again right in her fashion world.

Meg has decided to try to help me out in the fashion world. She figured she'd start with something easier than clothing and went straight for the hair...

I'm not exactly sure how I'll manage with girls who are drawn to fashion, but maybe at some point they'll be able to help out their poor fashion-challenged mom. Just as long as we don't get another one of these...

(it just never gets old for me...in fact, funnier every single time) "fashion moguls" in the house I'm content.

Hysterical as usual! Isn't life a scream? I want to go on the next hike so I can enjoy ALL of nature's gifts! :)

A much needed laugh. I went for comfort, too, but for Church: it was girly hour! What fun you must have with 3 such different and exciting girls! Never a dull moment, right??

OK, I loved so many things about this post, but none so much as the fact that you snapped that photo of Jared and posted it on your blog. He must be so grateful to be married to a member of the paparazzi. When is our February lunch????

Oh my how funny - your life is so full of interesting things...I love the picture of Jared moving the yard in Temple - boy does that lawnmower look familiar? I see if often at Chad's house...

A big pat on your back for letting your girls find their own personal sense of style. They are all so darn cute. I am drawn to meg's style sense. I think she has it goin' on! As for me, I will find style again once I fit into my clothes hanging in my closet. How I long for some style. ( I'd even take Leah's mismatched style at this point.) :)

I just love how little Meg is following her little older sister's steps.

I love that you posted Jared's picture, because when you were asking, in the post, how in the world you got such genes/DNA, I immediately thought of that. Ahem. It IS in the genes. Ahem.
