Ranting Economist

Since Rachelle is on vacation, I'm going to rant about inept politicians coming up with solutions that actually make the problems worse!

First, how about Obama proposing the cure to high energy prices is higher taxes on energy producers. Anybody with an ounce of sense knows that when you tax something you get LESS of it. Does he really think that by telling oil producers that they're only allowed to make a government specified profit that they will be motivated to produce anything? This is a recipe for higher gas prices, not lower. this has been tried before and failed, so why does he think it will work now? The answer is he's more interested in buying votes from the economically illiterate than solving problems.

There's plenty of blame to go around for the financial shenanigans, but the cure Congress came up with and Bush signed is throwing good money after bad. Let me get this straight: we have a big problem because government backed companies enabled speculators and people with bad credit to buy homes they couldn't afford. Solution? Allow and even encourage the failed government backed companies to lend even more money to continue to prop up the housing market, backed by the taxpayers. This isn't a solution, it only perpetuates the problem by preventing the market from achieving real price discovery. Worse, it's like a massive government takeover of the housing market since the taxpayers are now guaranteeing it.

Real solutions lie in free markets, not government takeovers and oppressive taxes.

AMEN! Now there's a worthy post! Thank you thank you thank you. It's all politics, no sense. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama starting saying, "And I promise new soda pop machines in every class room when you vote for me!"

When did this ever turn into a popularity contest?

You want to see a brief glimpse of a "government gone wrong"? Look at our country right now!

We pray for someone with clear vision to come forth and take charge! Too bad it won't be Mitt.
