The day seemed a little brighter on Thursday. The air was a little fresher. It was the day after Romney's beat-down of Obama in the first presidential debate. I've always thought Romney would make a better president than candidate but I was impressed with how thoroughly he dominated. It made me glad that I made my first political contribution of my life to his campaign few weeks earlier. I find myself well to his right on some issues (we need more aggressive medicare and social security reform for instance) but I get that he has to be moderate to get elected or to get anything done as president.
Obama on the other hand was exposed as the empty suit that he is. He has spent the campaign so far setting up a straw-man Romney that he could pummel at his stump speeches. When the real Romney showed up and didn't follow that script, Obama was flummoxed. He hadn't prepared and he wasn't used to people challenging him. He was like the smartest kid in high school who could always just wing it and get by, who then goes to college is shocked to learn that he might actually have to study. Now he's trying to spin it by calling Romney a liar after the fact. The man isn't fit for office. If he gets re-elected the American people deserve all the misery they will get. But I think Romney has momentum, Democrat turnout will be lower and independents will put Romney in the White House.
