Her Extemporaneous Act

I love the conversations I get to have with my girls. With kids, you just never know what you're going to get and I get a major kick out of the surprises they throw my way from time to time.

A couple days ago Brita got ready for school and she looked so cute. She was wearing her purple jeans, a blue sweater and she threw on a necklace that was the perfect touch to the outfit. She rarely wears jewelry, so I thought the necklace was a fun little surprise.

I told her how much I loved that she was wearing her necklace and how great it was as a finishing touch (like I should be providing commentary on anyone's clothing choices, but I did it anyway). She told me that after getting dressed she was in her room just looking over her bookshelf, as she does quite frequently I imagine, when the necklace just kind of jumped out at her so she put it on.

"It was extemporaneous" she said.

Then she went on to tell me how the word extemporaneous is so much more fun and interesting to say than something boring and predictable like spur of the moment.

As long as she's not critiquing something I've done, I love the conversations I get to have with that kid...extemporaneous AND otherwise.
