Jared and our friend Jeff Hall are going to be backpacking through Yosemite in the fall. Jeff and Crystal and their kids were here briefly, so of course Jared and Jeff spent a good chunk of time discussing their trip.
As much as I don't want to backpack through Yosemite and camp for a week while dodging bears and the like, I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the two of them are traipsing through the forest. Jeff is very much a planner. He's been doing lots of research into "essential" backpacking gear, sophisticated foodie-type backpacker food, and trails. Jared on the other hand is very much a minimalist and let's-go-where-the-wind-takes-us kind of guy while I eat one of my meager granola bars. I crack up listening to the two of them because they are both very set in their ways and convinced that their way is the right way.
I guess they took their discussion a step further and pulled out the air mattresses so they could practice. From the looks of it, they're going to have a pretty good trip.
