Staycation Day 1

Rather than drive many hours to get to some destination that the kids might not appreciate, and endure endless hours of backseat wars, we're staying home this year for our end of summer vacation. Today I dropped everyone off at the zoo while I went to a meeting at Myriad Genetics where I am a lab director. When I asked the kids what they liked best about the zoo, they said the dinosaurs. Huh? It really has been a while since I've been to a zoo. Apparently the mechanical dinosaurs were more impressive than the actual animals.

After that we went across the street to This Is The Place state park, climbed on some statues, and ate a picnic lunch under a shade structure that may have been built by Brigham Young himself. The park has a pioneer village that I would have liked to explore but the kids were tired and cranky at that point. An advantage of a staycation is you don't feel obligated to squeeze the most out of every day.

In other developments, Leah has developed a method of somersaulting as a mode of transportation rather than walking.
