A House Full

What a glorious weekend we had with the house full of cousins. My brother Chad’s family made the drive from Kanab to visit for a few days and we crammed in as much fun as we could stand. Chad’s boys are the 3 Stooges. It’s like some kind of slapstick comedy the way they fight and hit each other over silly things. To be fair, my girls have more than their share of fights, but it was fun to see how boys do it for a change.

Here’s a quick rundown of the highlights:

Caught frogs and found letterbox at Lion’s park

Visited State Capitol

Climbed on real trains at Whistle Stop park

Toured pathology labs, complete with handling real brains and other organs

Ate Yummy Barbecue at Schoepf's

Hiked at Mother Neff State Park

- Left kids with sitter and drove to Ft. Worth to witness TCU-BYU debacle
- Explored Inner Space Cavern
- Attended Astronomy Night at Brita and Leah’s school

Megan enjoyed all the attention and getting dragged around, poked and tripped over by so many new kids. Leah did her best to appease little Collin, who vied for her attention, but clearly had much more interest in playing with Cade who is her age. Leah saved the day at one point when Collin was lost and crying at the playground and Leah rescued him. Brita felt right at home acting like a big sister to all those boys and fighting with them like they were her own brothers. Does it sound like it wasn’t a very peaceful weekend? Maybe not, but they sure had fun and already miss their cousins.

One night while we were trying to put the kids to bed so we could relax with a nice grown-up board game, the whole house was waiting for Leah. She’s notorious for taking her own time in the bathroom. I was a little irritated as I asked if she was done because we were ready to read scriptures. “Oh, perfect timing” she responded, oblivious to the other 10 people in the house who had been waiting.

Jared,
I love how you guys get out and do fun stuff instead of just sitting around when company comes. I'll have to remember that after the baby comes and I need to get my butt off the couch.....
