Last Week's Happenings

Last week started out with a bang when Brita let it be known that an orphanage is preferable to living with our family. She was irritated with the FHE lesson topic I chose (the Sacrament) and then she flew into a mini-rage when we had the nerve to ask her what promises she will make when she gets baptized. I guess sometimes living in an orphanage would be better than having FHE in a nice, comfortable home (even if it is a bit messy) with a family.?.?.

At dinner the other night little Meg was sitting on Jared’s lap opening her mouth like a little bird each time he popped a piece of pineapple in his mouth. Jared violated my strict “introduction to foods” schedule and let her suck on a piece. She loved the tart flavor despite the erratic head shakes and eye twitches. When I realized how cute it was, I grabbed the video camera. As soon as Brita and Leah heard the beep of the “on-air” camera, the show was on and it became more of a competition between the two older girls for the spotlight. Poor Meg can’t even be the star of her own show.

To start off his day yesterday Jared went to the church to participate in the Elders Quorum service to clean the church. To his surprise, it turned out he was the only one who participated in that activity. A couple hours later he returned home pretty exhausted (and maybe a tad annoyed). The irony is that I don’t know when he has ever dedicated a two-hour block to cleaning the inside of our home. I guess it’s true that we really do give our best to the Lord.

Last night we went to a birthday party for our seven-year old friend Mason and besides giving Jared an opportunity to quiz the guys there as to their whereabouts during “church cleaning duty”, we had the pleasure of taking turns examining the big poop pile in the seat of the kid-sized motorized Jeep to determine exactly which kid did the honors. The culprit was never identified, but luckily Mason’s little brother Zander took a sample before we even noticed it was there. Talk about an abrupt end to a great party.

A few parting quotes from this week…

Quote #1

Leah (the “I-speak-my-thoughts-before-I-decide-if-that’s-a-good-idea child): I don’t usually listen to scriptures, but I did tonight and it was pretty fun.

Brita (the forever pleaser): I listen to scriptures even if it’s not interesting.

Quote #2

All of us were waiting in the family room for Leah to brush her teeth so we could read Harry Potter. It's not uncommon for her to take up to twenty minutes to complete such an undertaking, so Brita and I were singing to pass the time. After about ten minutes of singing, Leah came out of the bathroom and said, "When you sing it makes me dance so I can't brush my teeth."

Nothing ends a party quicker than a stray turd! It gives a new perspective on the term 'party pooper'.

I was all set to just say "Kids are awesome" and leave it at that, then I had to read Jared's comment, so I amend it to "Kids and Dads are awesome!" I may laugh all night!

That's too funny Katie. I keep getting the giggles over it myself (even if I did sort of make fun of Jared last night for his post--he's glad you liked it).
