Each week Jared and I exchange e-mails with our families highlighting our previous week--it's our attempt to stay in touch with each other and it's great! These e-mail exchanges let us catch little glimpses into each other's lives and we look forward to them like kids look forward to Christmas. Because this blog will someday be printed for our family record, we're going to include "Last Week's Happenings" in our blog posts. Jared and I always take turns writing the e-mail, so you can look forward to at least a couple posts from Jared a month. His writing style is much more efficient than mine and he's full of wit...so tune in next week for his update, but this week you'll have to settle for mine:
Jared officially started his job on Tuesday this week...his training is now complete, over, behind us! We celebrated last month with surprise tickets from me to the Spurs/Lakers playoff game in San Antonio. Even though that was a great celebration, I can't believe I didn't do ANYTHING to celebrate his first official day. Lucky for me Jared's a low-maintenance guy, but I felt stupid when he came home with a big candy bar bouquet from one of the attendings. And I was really frustrated because I didn't want to waste my weight watchers points on any of the candy--instead I just salivated after the girls as they picked at it all week.
Jared spent the first few days of his new job borrowing the residents' computers until he could get one in his office. What's up with that?! One of the helpful department secretaries told Jared he could just pretend there was a computer in his office. Jared replied that maybe he'd just go ahead and pretend to do his job then. After the department head honcho caught wind of the situation, things were rectified in a quick hurry.
We've spent our entire married life (with the exception of the first two weeks of our marriage) doing Jared's medical school and training--nine whole years. When we were first married and I was looking forward, it seemed like I'd be near the end of my life when he finally finished. Now look at us--we have a new baby and it's like we're starting our life together all over again.
The 4th of July felt like an extra Saturday since Jared was home. Love that! We went to a pancake breakfast at the church and the kids put on a bike parade in the parking lot. It sure beat fighting the crowds and the heat at the town parade--hate those! In the late afternoon Leah told me her stomach felt like the sausage she ate for breakfast.
In the evening we went to Tim and Vicki New's - Jared covets their place and the girls and I love it too. It's so peaceful and fun. We had a yummy barbecue, some of the kids fished (including Jared), then watched the huge fireworks display Tim put on for us. I couldn't believe it was a home fireworks show. The kids loved the freedom to run around, scream, lie on their backs, eat cupcakes and do pretty much anything they wanted to during the fireworks.
The big news is that we started this blog (oh, our lives are so thrilling). Jared was surprised at the number of friends I told him about who currently have blogs and he can't believe we're the latecomers to this party. So we're welcoming ourselves to the blogging party and hope we've got the energy to keep up.

Okay, so I had no idea how fun it would be to receive comments on my blog. Up to this point, I've been an exclusive lurker. Now that I have a blogger ID, I'm considering becoming a "blog commenter" myself. Love ya friends!
I LOVE it! Welcome to the party!! We just arrived a few weeks ago, too. Isn't this fun? I'm steadily learning about all kinds of things you can do with this. I agree with Karen: you are a GREAT writer, so keep those entries coming. . .Looking forward to it!
Hey, I found you!!! Cool blog and great writing. Isn't blogging the greatest??? It beats e-mail anyday. Will you do me a favor and tell Vicky New hi for me? I wasn't the best visiting teacher but I was hers for a while before we switched wards. Her husband wasn't a member then. Miss ya!
