Cousin Marathon

The cousin marathon is over, well, for a while anyway. My brother and his family came from Belgium, so that meant non-stop cousin excitement (with both his kids and my sister's kids) for three full weeks. The last two weeks have been spent on the road...

With the girls and their "friends" buckled in tight, we were off to St. George to spend the week with granny and grandpa.

St. George was hot, hot, HOT, so that meant a freezer full of popsicles and ice cream bars was cleaned out.

We found a couple letter boxes, and for some reason we always do it in the heat of the day (probably because days with cousins don't get started until somewhere around noon given consistent midnight bedtimes).

We continued our annual tradition of going to Tuacahn - this year's play was "Footloose." Maybe not the best choice for seven and eight-year old impressionable children, but I'm hoping the singing and dancing left the biggest impression. The girls loved it.

After a week of swimming, shopping, eating out, watching movies, eating ice cream and ROASTING in the St. George heat, we ended our three-week stint with our traditional stay at a cabin in Midway.

The girls always do some kind of program for us, and this year's production was amazing. A play called "Lost Island" written and directed by Nicole.

The day of the performance, we found posters and invitations plastered all over the cabin.

The kids practiced for HOURS and it showed. We've got some talented kids in this group! Jared's favorite part was a fighting scene, complete with sound effects and someone getting killed. My favorite was the quiz at the end when I was asked to perfectly summarize the play. We were treated to sugar cookies during intermission and at the end we all won some prizes in a drawing. This was no amateur production! They keep getting better and better.

While in Midway, we ate good food, made our traditional excursion to Park City to go on the Alpine Slide; played a lot of Ticket to Ride; played the Wii, Air Hockey and Foosball games; read lots of books; watched more movies; went for walks and made the most of our last few days together. After spending every day the last three weeks with family, we're going through some withdrawals. But what a blessing to have had such a great time.

Now we're just going to chill until school starts next week...

That all looks like so much fun! We miss you guys. We really, truly hope you'll consider making it some sort of tradition to come east and use our home as "base" for adventures in NYC, DC, Gettysburg, Philly, the beach, New England, etc.

I was wondering where you guys have been! you're usually my inspiration for consistent blogging. Relatives over from across the pond trumps blogging every time.

that's awesome that they did a play and worked hard on something that honed their creativity!

That was so much fun to see Doug's kids and hear about your fun time together! I didn't see any pictures of Chandler so I'm hoping you can do a post about him and his cute sister for me.

I'm so glad you followed the play with percission so you could accurately answer the quiz questions. So, so cute! I also can't believe how all of the kids have grown. Amazing!
