Summer's Final Fling
I had the last week before the kids go back to school off so we tried to do some fun stuff in between business meetings and putting the rental house up for sale. We went up Diamond Fork to hike to the hot pots on Tuesday. We had the trail to ourselves and amused ourselves singing silly songs in rounds. The creek was low this late in the year and the usual hot pots were to hot to soak in. There were a couple of new ones further down that someone had built that were just right.
As soon as we got out of the water the trouble started. Horse flies swarmed us. Everyone was bothered by them especially after experiencing their first bite, but Brita had something of a panic attack, running and screaming. Everyone else took it in stride. We found another neat pool with waterfall on the way back and we stopped to eat snacks. Brita was still not enjoying herself. The hike was OK except for the flies but I wouldn't go back there in August.
Friday we met Eric's Family on the Mirror Lake Highway for an overnight camping trip. It's always nice to mooch off their tent trailer because it feels like sleeping in a real bed. I put up the hammocks and they were a huge hit with the kids, although Tess fell out twice and hurt herself. We did tinfoil dinners and dutch oven chocolate cake again. Casey and Allison joined us at dinner time. In the morning we hiked Mount Baldy. It was fun to hear about Eric's new job and spend more time with the cousins.
