Rachelle was at girls camp with the youth group this week, so I took advantage and took my girls camping. We went to Oak Creek near Delta and had the whole huge campground to ourselves for a mid-week overnighter. We cooked hotdogs and s'mores, climbed a few rocks, explored a secret staircase and played frisbee. Meg fell and cut her lip and then she was hyper when the rest of us were trying to sleep.

Learning moment for Brita: When deciding what shoes to wear for camping, bring something besides flip-flops.
In the morning we drove out to Topaz Mountain, way out in the west desert. We didn't know how to look for Topaz so we just brought some little shovels and hammers and thought we'd dig around in some washes and see if we could find anything. We didn't even really know what we were looking for. I guess I thought there might be a sign that said "dig here" or something. Obviously we didn't find anything so we hiked to the top of a ridge instead. Then Leah decided she would bag the peak while I stayed back with the less adventurous. My take on Topaz Mountain is you shouldn't go there for the first time unless you have someone who knows how to find topaz. And never go there with just flip-flops on your feet.
