Brita and Leah are at the stage of life where they seem to be losing a tooth every week. Leah has two teeth that have been waiting on the Tooth Fairy for several months and Brita has five. When they first lost these teeth, the girls asked daily for a while about when the "Tooth Fairy" would be visiting. They finally got the message that the Tooth Fairy just didn't seem to be very excited about their teeth anymore and they cut back to asking only once or twice a month without much faith.
Today Brita showed me how loose one of her molars was, then she disappeared for a couple minutes. When she came back she casually said, "That's by far the easiest tooth I've ever pulled out." I marveled at how far we've come since her first loose tooth that she insisted dangle by one nerve for almost a week before dramatically allowing her dad to pull it out.
Then she said, "I guess I'll just throw it in the garbage can now." At that, I couldn't stop laughing and then she said, "Why are you laughing? Is it because I know the Tooth Fairy will never come so I'm just throwing it away?"
When I confessed that she hit the nail on the head, she gave it one last shot. "Can I just have ten dollars and call it good?"
That kind of attitude will serve her well in life because you just never know when you might get what you ask for....just not this time.
It looks as though the Tooth Fairy is officially retired around here, at least until Meg starts losing teeth. I couldn't be happier. The Tooth Fairy is going to enjoy this temporarily retired phase.
