Valentines

The night girls and I came up with a sneaky plan for Jared for Valentine's Day. I told Jared the girls and I were going to run an errand and I couldn't find my keys so I needed his. He wasn't alarmed by this because I am always losing my keys.

Our "errand" was to use his keys to get into his office at the hospital and plaster it with our love. The girls get giddy over stuff like this. They taped hearts all over his office door and walls, giggling and squealing almost the whole time. I'd feel like squealing myself when they'd step back to admire their work and then step forward to carefully place another heart in just the right spot. Jared's office turned out so cute and we were all so excited for him to see it the next day.

That night, after Jared and I tucked the girls into bed and they were fast asleep, we spread a little love of our own for them to wake up to the next morning.

Meg wanted to show a little love of her own to one of her favorites:

I thought it was a great way to share some love on Valentine's Day.

I've got mixed feelings about Valentine's Day. When Jared and I were first married, it was really important to me that we do something for each other on Valentine's Day, but I quickly realized that I didn't like it very much because I could tell that Jared was only doing something for me out of obligation and it didn't make me feel very good. So then I started hating the holiday and swore that I would be angry if he did anything for me. For the past several years, we've had a pact to not do anything for each other, but this year I just wanted to show him some love.

I figure that if it comes from the heart and it's something I want to do, then I should. And the kids absolutely love a little valentine's surprise from me and their dad and because I see how happy our little gestures make them, I love to do something for them.

This year Valentine's was a good day and my heart was definitely filled with love for my little family.
