Countdown to Christmas - Day 2

Since "Day 1" didn't necessarily go as planned, we carried the December 1st activity over to December 2...the girls decorated their miniature Christmas tree in their room.

The thing that's especially great about this, is that we strung the lights without checking them first. So the lights on their tree don't actually work, but the girls don't seem to even care. They're just happy to have been able to actually DO the activity they were excited about doing.

The actual activity for December 2 was to attend "The Living Nativity" at the Provo Tabernacle. I wanted to get there for the 6:30 performance, so we left at 6:26 which meant we did some window shopping at mostly vacant stores on Center Street until they started seating for the 7pm performance. The performance was much better than I had expected it to be (low expectations often yields pleasant surprises) and it was only 20 minutes, which meant Meg only talked and squirmed for about ten minutes of the whole thing.

The best part was walking out onto the field next to the Tabernacle after the show so the girls could pet some live animals. Leah wanted to pet and have her picture taken with each one.

The baby yak

the sheep

the donkey

and the camel

Brita only felt like posing with the sheep (when it wasn't looking) because Leah accidentally cut Brita's finger with some wire sticking out of a ribbon just as we were leaving the show. It sucked the joy right out of the petting zoo for Brita, but she tried to be a good sport for a chance to be in front of the camera for a minute.

And as for Meg, she wasn't quite sure about the sheep.

I would say Day 2 was a marked improvement over Day 1 and I am hopeful that the trend will continue. I'm certain that we are totally coming together as a family over these events.

Oohhhh--I love live Nativities! So do my kids. I'll have to look for one around here.

So do you do something special everyday of December? That's pretty busy.
