So my new eight year old was so excited about the balloon hat that Brita concocted for her out of one of her own birthday gifts. She wore it around the house all day.
In the afternoon I asked the birthday girl if she wanted to come with me to the paper store to get some table covers for the picnic tables for her after-baptism luncheon. She seriously considered the offer, then asked, "Can I wear this if I go?" as she pointed to the contraption atop her pretty little head.
Then I seriously considered...No freaking way am I going out in public with her looking like that...but why do I care what she's wearing...at least she's dressed modestly...we are not an alien family though...however, she is the birthday girl...if she's okay wearing it then I should be okay to let her wear it...besides, if she wears that hat people won't even think about looking at her chubby mama who needs a better haircut...
[Big, huge sigh]
Yes.
Okay, then. I'll go.
NO!!!! Don't tell me she just said Okay then...I'll go.
[Big, huge, fake smile]
Great! We'll go in just a few minutes.
Thankfully, "just a few minutes" never came for us that day. We seriously ran out of time. And I was seriously relieved.
Can I just say how much I love that girl!!! And that if we hadn't run out of time, I would have taken her to the store wearing her awesome new hat and I swear I would have loved every minute of it.

You're a great mom, Rachelle. Sometimes we just have to bite it and let them live as they choose. And yes, it could have been way worse!
lol. You are a great mom! I love seeing little girls wearing their own "style". You can tell they are just enjoying being kids.
BTW congrats and Happy b-lated birthday to Leah. She surely made a huge step on getting baptize. Congratulations again girl, your momma is doing a magnificent job!
I love her fashion sense, or as you see it, lack thereof. One of a kind girl---she'll always keep you entertained!!! Congrats on the baptism.
