Peasant Food

Some of the residents at work were marveling at how I stay thin while appearing to eat everything in sight at work. I told them what my secret was: we rarely have anything good to eat at home. Rachelle is a good cook, but she only really does it about once a week. I told them that most nights I could look forward to some spaghetti with watery, meatless sauce, grilled cheese or beans and tortillas. It’s decent food, balanced and nutritious, but not something that’s going to tempt me to overeat. One of the residents shook his head and said “You eat like peasants”.

It’s been a busy week with making and delivering of Christmas goodies to friends. I spent Saturday night at Skip Gerrard’s house watching a disappointing BYU bowl game. Even with the unhappy outcome it was fun to make it a social event. Plus they had some really good meatballs and sugar cookies. No peasant food that night.

It’s so fun to have kids to remind us of how exciting Christmas really is. Brita and Leah can spend hours stacking and inventorying the presents in Christmas corner. Megan likes to bite and taste the various types of wrapping paper. Brita insists on making presents for everybody because she doesn’t want to spend any money, even though she has a huge wad of cash stashed somewhere. I can’t wait for my lovely handmade card, that’s not too different from the ones she makes for me all the time. Leah, on the other hand, had to go to the dollar store and spend the last of her meager savings on gifts for everyone, and a big giant sized jingle bell for herself. Now she won’t have to shake that little tiny one when she sings Christmas songs anymore. This new one is the size of a cowbell and will undoubtedly enhance all of our Christmas experience.

ROTFL! I love how you capture the girls' personalities with these posts. Merry Christmas, peasant friends!

I love the comparisons between Brita and Leah. They sound about as different as night and day. How fun to watch!
