Holiday Hoopla

December is always filled to the brim, not leaving much time to breathe. We've packed a lot of stuff in our tight little schedules this month and it's been a Christmas I want to remember. I love to look back on previous Christmas seasons and see what things have stayed the same and what has changed. We have some traditions that will probably always be with us, but every year something gets mixed in to or axed from the activity line up.

As for this year, here's what we've been up to for this particular Christmas season...

Brita, Leah, Granny and I went to the Christmas Around the World dance production at BYU. Brita had already seen it with her school class, but she was happy to go again. It was so well done and look at those big snowflakes dangling from the ceiling in the background.

Mom loves stuff like this and she really loves to spend time with these two awesome girls.

Meg has become very spiritual this Christmas season and is faithfully reading her scriptures.

Brita is all about lists and I love the parts of this list where she keeps planning times to check on her siblings. She wants to make sure we all get out the door on time. It doesn't get much better than that.

We've been running fast from one thing to another, so we've been taking lots of smoothies in the car with us for some nourishment before lessons and to get us through Christmas shopping.

Brita and a couple of her friends made a Christmas tree out of books! with their teacher's permission. How freaking cool is that?! I wonder if I'll ever feel ambitious enough to allow something like that at home?? I sure hope so because that thing is cool.

Meg is growing up and doing her own hair these days. Love that kid.

Leah and Meg had a special treat-making afternoon with granny.

We celebrated Carrie's birthday. I really love that sister of mine. I have to post a bunch of pictures from when we were singing. As I have mentioned in the past, we really sing the happy birthday song and Carrie is loving Meg's contribution. I love the progression of pictures, where toward the end Carrie just can't resist the urge to join in on her own birthday song.

It might be a busy month, but we're still squeezing in a little practicing here and there. How awesome is it that Leah is wearing her coat and backpack while she's practicing. She is definitely ready to walk out the door on a moment's notice. I wonder if that is because Brita followed her schedule and checked on her siblings multiple times that morning.

Meg is showing off the Christmas tree she made in pre-school.

Leah hosted a cookie decorating party with friends and apparently, she appeared as Rudolph.

The older girls and granny and I went to the Nutcracker at the Covey Center. It was my first time ever going to the Nutcracker. It was beautiful and I want to go again.

The girls wanted to get a closer look at the orchestra.

Leah and Meg delivered salsa to all of our neighbors. These two really get into this kind of thing. They seriously run from door to door and come back all smiles for another load. We're all a little bummed when there are no more deliveries to be made.

Tonight was our Szymanski family Christmas party which is always held the Monday night before Christmas. This year Amber and David hosted and it was fab. We had a yummy dinner and great conversation with people we'd love to see every day if we could. Amber gave the kids the cutest nativity project - after we'd sing a song and read a scripture they got to put a certain sticker on their nativity page. At the end they all had a completed nativity.

Grandpa and Grandma like to give each of the kids a book. I LOVE that gift and the kids love it too. It's so much fun when grandpa pulls out his big Santa bag and starts handing out the gifts.

It's a lot of work to pull together an evening for a group this size. Amber and David were great hosts and I know it was a ton of work for them. They're such a cute couple and it's so much fun to watch them build their little family. It's awesome to see a family the size of the Szymanski's just grow and grow. The older kids keep getting bigger and new little kids keep getting added. I know I say it all the time, but nothing beats family. And at Christmas, family is the best gift of all.
