Spring Break - Part 2

We were in Washington DC on Easter Sunday and Leah wanted to surprise Meg by dressing up as the Easter Bunny. Leah was so excited and it was so much fun to watch her get ready. Meg was thrilled but Leah was disappointed that Meg knew the "Easter Bunny" was really Leah. I tried to help by explaining that as Meg grows up she's going to figure out more of these things. I wanted Leah to know how much I appreciated her making the holiday special for Meg and I hope she understood that Meg didn't mind knowing the truth. She looked adorable in the little bunny head she made herself.

Because three easter baskets aren't that easy to pack into a suitcase, the Easter Bunny brought "Easter Bags" instead.

After the kids went swimming and ate enough candy, we headed out to explore some more of our nation's capitol.

Brita and Leah had done some research on the different sites and museums and they each chose one to learn about and take our family to. Brita chose the Spy Museum and Leah chose the Air and Space Museum. They were both amazing and even though the kids got tired, they kept exploring.

Jared and the two older girls went in the adventurous simulator

while Meg and I went in the one that was less likely to make us sick.

When we were finished looking around the museum, the girls finally got to do some souvenir shopping. That's always a highlight for them and it always takes a long time because they need to touch everything and make sure they see all of their options before making the painstaking decision of which item to buy. You'd think that after all the thought and effort they put into making their selections that they would still have an interest in them for at least ten minutes after we get home, but they usually just get pushed aside and thrown away or donated to D.I. later. Even so, souvenir shopping is part of our traveling tradition and the girls know they get to choose one thing each time we go on vacation.

We made a quick stop inside the National Museum of American History so the girls could see Dorothy's actual red slippers from the Wizard of Oz, but instead they got to see the Scarecrow's boots and hat instead. And this photo looks like I'm taking a picture of a bunch of people behind dirty glass because you can hardly see the boots and hat. But it took great effort to drag all of our tired bodies  into that museum, so this photo better be worth something, even if it just gets a little spot on the blog.

It was awesome to see the White House and because it's so familiar to them, even the girls were excited about it. There's lots of interesting stuff going on around that place. The signs behind Leah say, "LIVE BY THE BOMB. DIE BY THE BOMB." and "BAN ALL NUCLEAR WEAPONS OR HAVE A NICE DOOMSDAY."

We explored more pretty gardens and I just couldn't get enough of the sister love.

The end of this day brought our time in Washington DC to a close, but by no means was the vacation and adventure over. That's Part 3 tomorrow.
