Every year I pull out the Advent Calendar and it tells us what activities we will do to celebrate the season. I posted about some of last year's activities here.
This year I want to keep a better record of the actual events because these are the traditions that pull our family together at this time of year. Some traditions have intentionally been going strong for quite a few years now, and some develop almost accidentally. I like both kinds. I can't wait to see what happens with our traditions this year.
We got off to a rocky start on December 1st. The piece of paper in the Advent Calendar indicated that December 1st was the day for the girls to decorate the little tree in their bedroom. Except that was really bad timing by the person who decides what's going to go in the calendar each day (if you guessed that person to be Jared, you couldn't be more wrong...Jared's interest in the Advent Calendar is um, well, uh, um, you get the idea). December 1st was likely the busiest evening of our year...church stuff, piano stuff, lots of homework stuff, more church stuff.
So at 8:15pm, I put the nix on decorating the miniature Christmas tree. Mostly because I was super tired and cranky and I wanted the kids in bed so I to go to bed soon myself. Which meant I actually stayed up with one frustrated & disappointed child until around 10pm trying to undo the mess I created by taking away the Advent activity for the day. Which meant I went to bed after midnight. Not exactly the result I had been going for. Live and learn.
So for "Countdown to Christmas - Day 1", I have no pictures to post and nothing to say about a traditional activity our family participated in that bonded us together. I'm thinking it can only get better from here. And I better be right or some heads are going to roll. Just kidding about the head thing.
