New Job

Last week was my first week at work. My new scope is nice, and it has the best camera and image software I've ever used. The other pathologists are all jealous, and I think they'll be asking me to do their measurements on melanomas and such. The downside to having the best camera is now it looks like I'm the guy who gets to do tumor boards.

One thing that's not as nice as my last job is the gross lab is about a 5 minute walk away from the offices. Since we don't have residents to cut everything, I actually have to get in there and do the gross on complex specimens that the grossing techs aren't comfortable with. It's been busy getting used to things.

We hiked the Y on Saturday and found a letterbox. Meg enjoyed riding in the backpack. We found the talking wall that really tells you if it's the right one where the letterbox is found. The outing was perfect with a refreshing rain shower on our way back, and then free slurpees at 7-11 because it was 7-11.

I built some shelves in the garage that I'm pleased with. Rather than buy $300 worth of baskets that you hang from the ceiling, I built my own for about $50. I have a few more project ideas for it, but the garage is already feeling like my sanctuary/man cave.

We celebrated my parents' 40th anniversary this weekend. Almost all us kids were there with spouses - no kids. That was nice. We had a room at the Lone Star Steakhouse that we shared with one other group. When we got up to leave the other group stared at the family of giants, and someone said "Holy sh--". It fees like a circus whenever I go anywhere with my family. We gave Mom and Dad a book full of embarrassing photos and tributes from each of us. Just 30 years to go and my kids can throw me a party.

Nice job on the garage shelves. Somehow you don't strike me as a "baskets" guy. ;)
